Rooibos (roy-boss) literally means “red bush.” Native to South Africa's Cedarberg region it has historically been drank by the locals who found the needle-like leaves of the wild plant made for a tasty tea. The rooibos contained in this tea is fermented and oxidized leaving the leaves and the liquor a vibrant red. It is naturally caffeine free and contains one of the highest concentrations of anti-oxidants than any other natural substance. South African research on the tea has concluded that seven ounces of rooibos contains the following: Iron, Potassium, Calcium, Copper, Zinc, Magnesium, Fluoride, Manganese and Sodium. It is also renowned for its soothing effect on headaches, disturbed sleeping patterns and digestive problems. Our version of the Kalahari is rooibos combined with lemon grass and cornflowers resulting in an infusion that can assist in relieving cold and flu symptoms.
